I first tried Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil back in October 2018.
It couldn't have arrived at a better time - my skin was suffering dreadfully from the change in seasons. I find that there's never a more drastic upheaval for my skin as Autumn turns into Winter. There's the sudden shock of coming outside from a centrally heated home (which is so drying) into the wintry blast of cold and wind and it feels like your skin is constantly trying to fight its way back to a happy place whilst battling the elements.

Last year was perhaps the easiest transition that I can ever remember - sure, there was the annual scourge of hot cheeks, dry skin and that awful tight, under-nourished feeling and lack-lustre, dull complexion - but unlike other years, my skin was actually much speedier in finding an equilibrium. And I credit that smoother-than-usual journey to the Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil.

As we quickly head towards Autumn, I'd like to share almost a year-long journey where Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil has featured pretty consistently in my routines and how this gorgeous oil has helped my skin, whatever the weather.

This is my original bottle of Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil - the formulation hasn't changed, but the label has!

Autumn

Early Autumn (along with late Spring) are perhaps the times when my skin is at its optimum health. My skin is less oily than in the summer and hasn't quite started to get that winter dryness and sensitivity yet, so this is a time when I don't have to worry too much about juggling my skincare routines and can pretty much use what I like.

The Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil is micro batch, vegan friendly, cruelty free, has no mineral oils and no synthetic fragrances. It is fully compliant with EU cosmetic regulation.
It's suitable for all skin types and that's why I think it's a brilliant year-round product.

If I had to choose just one skincare product (aside from SPF) then my favourite would be facial oil - and I have tried A LOT of facial oils!
Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil was my chosen 'Oil of the Year' in 2018 and is a dead cert to take that position again in 2019.
Why? Because it's a genius skincare product with an incredibly intelligent formulation which caters for all skin types and all seasons making it the most versatile facial oil that I have tried.

Winter

As previously mentioned, my skin is at its worst as Autumn changes to Winter.
Although I'd always consider my skin type to be Combination/Oily, come the winter, the combination part turns into dry, hydrated and sensitive!
The most trickiest balancing act comes with my morning routines - I need some heavy duty skin nourishment, but I don't want anything too heavy or greasy that sits on my skin and will make my make up slide around on my face. This is the time when I usually have most trouble with making my foundation work for me - it tends to sink into my pores and 'cake' on any dry patches. I've never found a primer that eliminates these issues, so I look to my skincare to double up as a primer as well. The Light Facial Oil more than adequately takes on that role.
In the winter I can easily get away with some form of hydrating serum, a facial oil, a light moisturiser and SPF on top of that! That's quite some heavy-duty layering going on and it can be a juggling act to ensure that my skin is moisturised and hydrated without it all being too much and turning into a bit of an oil slick.
The Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil fits the bill perfectly because it's such a light and dry oil and absorbs brilliantly. I think it works particularly well for my skin type because of the inclusion of oils which are high in Linoleic Acid.

Ingredient Spotlight

The first ingredient in the Light Facial Oil is Safflower Oil, which contains the highest level of linoleic acids available commercially. It's great for oilier skin and skin prone to breakouts as it won't clog pores.
Safflower Oil may be a light oil but that doesn't mean that it's lightweight in action - because as well as being a saviour for oily skin it can also deeply nourish and moisturise dry skin too.
Watermelon Seed Oil is another oil which is non-clogging and high in linoleic acid. It's a fabulous antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and is perfect for sensitive skin and can help repair acne-prone skin, Psoriasis, Rosacea and Eczema.
Prickly Pear Seed Oil contains more Vitamin E than almost any other oil which makes it a powerful antioxidant, protecting skin from free radicals. It also has the highest levels of betalains which are antioxidants which support collagen production, brightens the skin, act as an anti-inflammatory and hydrates the skin.
Passionflower Seed Oil is yet another non-pore clogging oil which is high in linoleic acid. It's a great source of Vitamin A and C and is excellent for soothing itchy skin and skin which has been over-exposed to the sun. Passionflower Seed Oil is also the star ingredient of Lime & Lilac Passionflower Cleansing Oil.
Hemp Seed Oil is not only non-pore clogging and high in linoleic acid but also a nourishing antioxidant. It provides skin with long-lasting hydration and has the ability to calm and balance irritated and sensitive skin.
And finally, Argan Kernel Oil which is known for being an oil which regenerates, soothes and repairs. It's great for restoring the skins elasticity so is particularly suited for mature skin but is also a great healer for a number of other skin ailments.

Spring

After what felt like an endless winter, I'm starting to yearn for the Spring - I need to see some greenery and all of those signs of new life in nature.
This is the time of year where my skin goes through a form of regeneration too. My skin starts to feel less tricky to handle and easier to regulate after the drama of winter skin.
I like to keep my morning routines consistent but the moisturising step may be decided upon day by day.
Applying the Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil after a quick spritz of facial mist means that absorption is much more efficient and that I can adapt the amount of oil that my skin needs on any given day. If I'm in a rush, I can quite easily apply my daily SPF on top and then move on pretty rapidly to applying my makeup without my face feeling too oily for base makeup. In fact, I find that the Light Facial Oil acts as a great primer and actually helps with the application of foundation. I generally won't need a setting powder as a 'blotter' on top of my foundation, for which I'm always grateful as I don't like my skin to feel suffocated by a powder coating. My foundation is far less likely to look or feel cake-y or patchy when applying it after the oil too.
Mid to late Spring is definitely the time when my skin is at it's most content.

Summer

Come the warmer months, it's with great reluctance that most oil-based products  have to be removed from my morning routine. This is the time when my skin is at its oiliest - particularly as the day wears on. Both morning and evening skincare routines are pared right back to the basics, as my skin doesn't need and won't tolerate the amount of layers that I usually use for the colder times of the year.
There are very few facial oils that I can use during summer. Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil is one of a few that can stay on the shelf.
Most mornings during the warmer months I will usually add a couple of drops of Light Facial Oil to a light moisturiser. Using the oil in this way acts as a 'booster' to pep up my moisturising step but will not make my skin get any oilier during the day.
At night, after spritzing my face with a facial mist to help with absorption, I can apply 3-4 drops of the Light Facial Oil as a last step before bed.

I've mainly talked about how the Light Facial Oil affects my skin, but I can't leave it here without mentioning how important it is for affecting my well-being too.
My love for a good skin care routine has many levels and one of the most important for me is actually how important it is for self-care. I often mention the 'Joy Scale' when rating skincare products. This is when a product surpasses its primary function and becomes a full-on sensory experience. Products rate highly for their 'ritualistic' properties, including the enjoyment of how they feel and perhaps, mostly importantly, how they smell.
Another reason why I enjoy Lime & Lilac products so much is for the signature Neroli and Frankincense scent. This beautiful scent of the Light Facial Oil comes only from the essential oils used, there is no added 'Parfum' - which in ingredients terms can mean anything and is usually a synthetic addition.

So what I'm getting from the Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil is an all-round, fully immersive experience - it works for my skin, mind and soul all year long.
