Thyme Out Review

Thyme Out - £18.00 for 200ml plus Mini Thyme-To-Go Refillable Spray BUY HERE

I first saw mention of this interesting tincture (love that word!) a couple of months ago on the Victoria Health online Newsletter.
Initially, I was thinking about it in terms of a skincare product - a 100% organic natural repairing lotion. But so far, it's been used for so many more purposes. In fact, I think I can safely say that this has been a summer essential for all the family, and hasn't been confined to the skincare shelf at all.

What is it?

Thyme Out is a water-based tincture where the Thyme has been steeped for weeks to draw out all of it's healing properties. The ingredients are all natural and very simple - just organic thyme, purified water, organic grain alcohol, and organic aloe vera.

What does it do?
Whilst the ingredients are simple, the list of ailments that Thyme Out can help with certainly is not!

Skin Soothing and Healing

Helps in the treatment and repair of:
Rosacea
Dermatitis
Eczema
Psoriasis
Prickly Heat
Rashes
Sunburn
Cuts and grazes

Anti Fungal
The Romans used to consume thyme to prevent poisoning and it was also used to prevent meat rotting too quickly. It was considered to have antibacterial and antifungal properties which is why it's great for fungal infections such as Athlete's Foot. Prior to antiseptic, thyme was also used to medicate bandages helping to treat bacterial and fungal skin infections.

Acne
According to VH, a study carried out by the University of Leeds showed amazing results using Thyme tincture when compared to benzoyl peroxide. Thyme proved significantly more powerful at eradicating Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria that cause acne, than any other acne medication. Thyme Out is not only the best natural treatment for acne but is actually the best treatment for acne.

As a natural deodorant
The antibacterial properties of Thyme Out can fight the bacteria that cause underarm odour.

Scent and Texture
Thyme Out is watery and has a greenish-brown tint to it - you will also see tiny little black dots in it if you apply it to a cotton wool pad (see photo).
It smells of Thyme - but not overpoweringly so as I thought it might.
Because it's natural, there is absolutely no irritation when applied either directly to the skin using the mini spray, or when applied to a cotton wool pad. In fact, this has got to be one of the most instantly soothing and cooling liquids I think I've ever tried!

Thoughts
Despite originally thinking that I would use this as part of my skincare routine, it's pretty much become one of the main staples in the family medicine cupboard.
Various family members have had this applied to sunburn, grazes, nettle stings, insect bites, bramble cuts, dry skin, itchy skin - pretty much anywhere on your skin which needs soothing. It's been a relatively short space of time that we've been using this and we haven't used it on anything which is an ongoing skin issue, so I haven't been able to test out how it does at clearing problems up. But as a go-to lotion for soothing and calming, this has just been brilliant. We've taken to saturating a large cotton wool pad and actually taping the compress down on to the affected area with surgical tape, so the Thyme Out can keep the inflamed area soothed for longer.
Although I feel it's quite expensive at £18 for 200ml - this does seem to genuinely be one of those multi-use products that has a similar efficacy for whatever you're using it for.
I don't remember Savlon, Dettol or TCP ever being so eagerly reached for in this household, so maybe there is a degree of novelty to this product. But compared to these other medicine cupboard staples that I've just mentioned, the smell is far less intrusive and much more appealing. Thyme Out also feels a lot more gentle than your regular over-the-counter anti-sceptic creams and lotions but works just as well, and also seems to soothe the affected area for a longer time span too.
There is something quite worthy and also garners more confidence when using a 100% natural product for medicinal purposes. But for me, there comes a time, if natural just isn't cutting it that I will reach for the 'big boys' to sort something out more quickly. However, in this instance, I'd say that Thyme Out is the Big Boy when it comes to healing and soothing! It's expensive, but by God, it really does work and for that reason - this Big Boy will take pride of place in the family medicine cupboard.

  1. I have rosacea and on days where I don’t want a full face of makeup I use Rosacea Treatment of Dermalmd to help with the redness. It is lightweight and goes on very smooth. It does a great job in calming the redness and gives your skin a beautiful glow.
