Winter Skincare Wonders

I thought I might just have gotten away with it this season! The seasonal transition from Autumn to Winter is usually pretty dramatic - an instantaneous and very apparent switch in my skin where in a blink of an eye, I can be oily one day and dry, tight, sensitive and dehydrated the very next day.

But as of yet, it's been an incredibly mild winter - who knows if the real severe weather is to follow in the next couple of months?

My skin was behaving quite nicely up until I succumbed to a bad cold and my body felt all ill and stressed, my skin followed suit very rapidly. After a bit of a blip and utilising all the most potent products in my skincare arsenal, I've managed to bring my skin back under control.

Here are my favourite winter products:

Morning

Lime & Lilac - Light Facial Oil*

This is perhaps the most versatile facial oil in my collection, suited for all-year-round-use and works in both my morning and evening routines. However, it's also my go-to facial oil for any sudden or perplexing changes in my skin. The Lime & Lilac Light Facial Oil is one of those instant miracle workers which gives my skin a good equilibrium. It's incredibly successful at stabilising my skin when there are sudden temperature changes.

Nudge Boutique - Saffron Glow Facial Serum*

Another fabulous year-round product, but where the Saffron Glow Facial Serum really comes into play is when my skin is feeling sluggish, tired and dull. This really is like sunshine in a bottle and brightens up my skin instantly. Can be worn under makeup in the morning without making my skin oilier, and doubles up as a great primer too.

NK Naturals - Winter Season Oil

Spicy and warming, the Winter season oil from NK Naturals is the perfect evening oil to massage into my skin to feed and nourish, letting it do its magic overnight.
This oil contains a blend of Jojoba, Oat Kernel, Cacay and Sea Buckthorn oils with Benzoin and Amber Resin. The bottle pictured is actually the old packaging - the season oil collection now come in rollerball bottles for easier application.

Temple Spa -  Repose - Aromatherapy Resting Cream

Deeply aromatic, calming and restful, this beautifully rich cream suits my skin as a sleeping mask. Used after my facial oil in the evening, this seals in all the goodness and ensures that I wake up with refreshed, hydrated, plump and well-rested skin in the morning.
The cream is blended with Hops Valerian, Chamomile, Frankincense, Lavender, Patchouli, Geranium, Bitter Orange and Clary essential oils - all known for their relaxing and calming properties.

Meadow Skincare - Hydration Boost Moisturising Face Balm

One of my favourite discoveries from last year, the Meadow Skincare moisturising face balm is a glorious oil-based balm which melts on contact with your skin and is a great alternative to a facial oil or night cream as the last step in my routine.
It's a multi-tasking balm and can be used on any part of your body, including hair and nails. I often find balms just slightly too heavy to use on my face, but this is just perfect. It's soothes and calms my skin and deeply nourishes and hydrates it when my skin is feeling dry or stressed.

Winter Bodycare

Mila's Apothecary - Winter Butter

This beautiful, small batch botanical body butter was part of a Christmas gift set that Mila offered as a limited edition set back in December. It's currently not for sale, but if you follow Mila on Instagram then you can be alerted when she has products ready to buy.
This is a sumptuous and rich body butter with a velvety texture. It applies like silk but absolutely cocoons my skin in a protective and fragrant balm. It has a delicate rose and vanilla scent with hints of cardamon and cocoa.

Natural Wisdom Spa - Blue Tranquility Balm

Perhaps one of the most stunning multi-purpose balms I've ever tried.
The Blue Tranquility Balm is presented beautifully, has the most glorious natural blue colour, has some top botanical ingredients and is an incredibly healing and soothing balm with very quick results.
The balm is named for it's star ingredient - Blue Tansy - which also happens to be one of my most favourite botanical ingredients. It's such an intensely healing and soothing herb and is particularly suited to winter skin issues such as extreme dryness and skin irritations caused by the cold weather.

Ziaja - Olive Oil Lip Balm

One of my favourite lip balms, and also the cheapest. This retails for under £2 and has lasted me an absolute age. This is a lightweight but mighty lip balm in a thick gel form. It's heavy enough to really soothe dry, sore or chapped lips but doesn't feel sticky or heavy on the lips. It has a really pleasant light scent too, which doesn't give off a strong taste when worn. Ziaja is a fantastic good value brand. They have lots of other lip balms, all priced very reasonably, including Cocoa Butter, Orange Butter and Coconut.
