DIY Recipe - Natural Insect Repellent
D.I.Y Natural Insect Repellent
This is an extremely quick and easy recipe for an all natural insect/mosquito repellent.
You will need:
* 2oz Coconut Oil
* 6 Drops of Citronella Essential Oil
* 6 Drops of Lemongrass Essential Oil
* 6 Drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil
* 6 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil
* 6 Drops of Tea Tree Oil
Method:
* Sterilise your glass jar by boiling and let cool and dry.
* Melt the coconut in a bowl which is rested above a pan of boiling water.
* Let the melted coconut oil sit for just a couple of minutes to slightly cool down.
* Add all of the essential oils and stir through thoroughly.
* Pour the mixture into your pot or jar and then let it sit at room temperature for a while.
* Refrigerate your pot of repellent until it sets.
* Do not keep the insect repellent in the fridge as it will be too hard to scoop out of the pot/jar!
*If the repellent starts to melt too much, just keep it in a cool dark place to let it set a bit firmer.
And that's all there is to it!
It's quite a strong smelling balm, but I personally don't find it too overpowering on my skin. I'm guessing it has to be reasonably strong to deter all those pesky biting bugs!
