Deviant Skincare

Who?
Deviant Skincare are an Indie Skincare brand with the message that they want to desegregate beauty - to deviate from gender specific, age specific and trend driven product development and marketing - hence the name Deviant.

"Skincare should simply be the harmony of purpose and formula: meaningful products, with potent, efficacious ingredients that truly benefit skin".

Gentle Resurfacing Liquid

This was a brand new release when I bought it back in late November. It was a complete impulse purchase considering that I'd not tried any Deviant skincare before.
The Gentle Resurfacing Liquid is an exfoliating formula combining a unique cocktail of AHA’s (Mandelic, Lactic, Glycolic, Malic and Citric), BHA (Salicylic Acid) and PHA (Gluconolactone) to gently dissolve the bonds binding dull, dead cells to skin’s surface.

It stimulates cell renewal which in turn improves the complexion, softening fine lines, discolouration and reducing the appearance of large open pores.

How to use
Can be used 2-3 times per week. After cleansing, soak a cotton pad and press into skin using an upward motion. No need to rinse. If using in the morning, following up with a sunscreen.

Ingredients
Water, Mandelic Acid, Glycerin, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf (Green Tea) Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root (Licorice Root) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf (White Tea) Extract, Tremella Fuciformis (Mushroom) Extract, Propanediol, Propylene Glycol, Gluconolactone, Malic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Centella Asiatica Leaf (Gotu Kola) Extract, Citric Acid, Aesculus Hippocastanum Leaf (Horse Chestnut) Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Calcium Gluconate, Butylene Glycol, Sorbitol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Benzoate.

I love that the Gentle Resurfacing Liquid has more of an oleaginous feel and certainly gives my skin a bit more nourishment than the more usual watery acid toners.

After using this my skin is noticeably brighter and clearer and feels incredibly smooth and soft. Of all the re-texturing/resurfacing products that I've used, this definitely offers the most instantaneous and noticeable results.

There's a very slight tingle on use but nothing too overwhelming or long-lasting.

I love the way that this feels like it removes dead skin but gives hydration at the same time. When something 'takes away' it doesn't usually 'give back' yet this is exactly what the Gentle Resurfacing Liquid does!
It's a pretty remarkable product and I've never tried anything quite like it.
I recognise two ingredients that I know have worked wonders with my skin - White Tea and mushroom extract (Tremella Fuciformis) are amazing brighteners as well as being cooling, soothing and healing. I've had great experience with products containing Horse Chestnut extract too in the past - it really helps with reducing redness and signs of broken capillaries.

Cleansing Concentrate

This is the cult product that everyone and their dog absolutely raves about on Instagram and with such consistently glowing reviews like that, I knew that I most definitely had to try it out.

Firstly, just look at that gorgeous packaging and presentation.
The Cleansing Concentrate comes in a black glass pot with the copper wax Deviant seal on the lid.

The Cleansing Concentrate has the most amazing yellow-green colour and although is scent-free, the scent of the natural ingredients noticeably shine through. It has a nutty, earthy scent which actually took me aback when I first smelled it as the scent is unlike any other that I've tried before.

But it's the texture that is the most striking on first use. A lighter, more gel-like consistency, this oil balm is super soft and melty, even before it touches your skin.

How to use
With dry hands, take a small amount of cleanser and massage thoroughly into dry skin to break down makeup, SPF and daily impurities. To remove, add a splash of water and continue to massage the skin to emulsify the cleanser. Proceed to rinse with lukewarm water. I like to use a face cloth to remove, but you don't need to as this emulsifies so beautifully.

Ingredients
Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil*,  Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Seed Oil, Camellia Oleifera (Camellia) Seed Oil*, Polyglyceryl-4 Oleate, Plukenetia Volubilis Linneo (Sacha Inchi) Seed Oil*, Di-PPG-2 Myreth-10 Adipate, Vaccinium Myrtillus (Blueberry) Seed Oil, Polyglycerol-3 Beeswax, Perilla Ocymoides (Perilla) Seed Oil*, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil,  Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Seed Oil*, Tocopherol (Vitamin E).

The balm is one of the silkiest I have ever tried which makes for a luxurious first step in your routine as well as being intensely practical. It's safe to use on the eyes and removes all eye makeup plus the usual daily grime and sunscreen in a flash.
The emulsifying stage is absolutely gorgeous! When a splash of water is added, the balm turns to a milk and could be easily washed away without the need for a face cloth. Although I personally like to use a face cloth to remove my first cleansers.
I'm thinking that if you were in a rush, then there would actually be no need to follow up with a second cleanser as the Cleansing Concentrate rinses away without leaving any oily residue.

Hype deserved? Abso-bloody-lutely!
