Pure Anada ~ Lipstick Swatches

I recently came across the online natural beauty shop Live in the Light who stock some pretty great brands which usually aren't readily available in the UK.
They also have a very generous sample service and it was through this that I was able to try out several samples of Pure Anada lipsticks.

Live in the Light

Pure Anada are a natural skincare, body care and cosmetics brand from Canada.
They make their cosmetics in their own lab, rather than out-sourcing to an external manufacturer, which means that they have full control of their formulations. Their clean formulations use ethically sourced ingredients which are fairly traded.
Products are cruelty free and free from common allergens - they do not contain Gluten (their Vitamin E is derived from Rice Bran or non GMO soy), Tree Nuts (or oils - exception: Eyeliner Pencils contain Almond Oil) or Bismuth Oxychloride (common mineral irritant).

It can be a bit of a nightmare choosing cosmetics online without being able to swatch them in real life to get a good feel for the colour and texture. Shade descriptions can help somewhat, but it can still be a bit of a gamble that may turn into an expensive mistake.
So here's a selection of Pure Anada lip colour swatches to give you a bit of a better idea of the colours and how the lipsticks perform.

Sample swatches

Please note - this is not the entire range - just a few selected swatches from samples.

Tin Feather Lip Oil Tint- Renaissance 10ml
£13.50
Renaissance is described as a vibrant brick/cherry red - which as you can see from the swatch looks about right. But when on the lips, I'd actually call it a deep blood red or claret wine colour. This is an amazing product! It's a cross between a lip gloss and lip tint. But whereas I really cannot stand sticky lip gloss, this is a far more wearable product. Hugely moisturising and applies really well. Minimum amount of transfer. This tints the lips rather than stains deeply. Very long-lasting and doesn't fade at the centre of the lips leaving you with just a bold outline remaining around the lips (which is a real dislike of mine!). The description says that it's tinted with colour but not full pigmentation - however, this is a pretty strong colour. I'm finding it the ideal way to wear a bold red without feeling too self-conscious. This one is going on the re-purchase list!

Tin Feather Lipstick - Velour 3g
Tin Feather Lipstick - Velour
£13.50
Velour is described as a dusty rose nude with a neutral undertone.
For me, this is an ideal everyday nude lipstick. Creamy to wear and ultra-moisturising on the lips. Is incredibly comfortable to wear and unlike high-street lipsticks, you can feel it working to keep your lips in fantastic soft and supple condition. It's not a particularly long-wearing formula but the colour fades before the lip-caring properties do.

Tin Feather Lipstick - Voltage 3g
Tin Feather Lipstick - Voltage
£13.50
A classic red with neutral undertone, (works for warm & cool undertones).  Designed by make up artist Kristen von Riesen for professional makeup artistry.
Wow! This is a truly sassy red - perhaps not as 'candy apple red' as it appears in the photo from the website, but still a good bold classic red.
This is a 'velvet' lipstick. Again, it's beautiful to wear - so moisturising and comfortable. Minimum transference. I got about two hours of good wear from this (including eating and drinking) until it started to fade uniformly.

Tin Feather Lipstick - Vogue 3g

Tin Feather Lipstick - Vogue

£13.50

Vogue is described as a light mauve nude with cool undertones - which as you can see from the swatch below is an accurate description. However, it does seem to come up much paler on the lips. So for this reason it's leaning slightly too far towards a candy pink for my own personal taste. But as above, the formula is fantastic and I cannot fault that.

Emma Rose - Petal Perfect Lipstick 3g-PureAnada-Live in the Light

Pure Anada - Petal Perfect Lipstick - Emma Rose
£12.00

Emma Rose is a pale shimmery copper colour. Not quite metallic so is much more suited for daytime wear. It's a great summer shade. It's not the longest-lasting of wears, but it suits me that this fades uniformly. This was just a tad too light and shimmery for my liking - I loved the colour but would have preferred it in a less shimmery and more matte formula. Again, it came up paler on the lips than the swatch shows.

Made with rich butters, plant oils, and waxes provide a smooth, creamy consistency.  Rosehip Seed Oil is known to repair dry, damaged skin and promote cell regeneration.  A perfect treatment to hydrate and smooth your lips! Glimmering minerals impart natural shine and ensure long-lasting wear.

Also available is an Emma Rose Lip Gloss. This can be paired with the lipstick to create a high-shine glossy lip topper. But to be honest, I feel that the lipstick has enough shine for my own personal preference.

Nostalgia (Matte) - Petal Perfect Lipstick 3g-PureAnada-Live in the Light

Pure Anada - Petal Perfect Lipstick - Nostalgia (Matte)

£12.00

Nostaligia is a bold coral-rose nude. On the lips, the coral tone is much more evident.
It has the same creamy consistency as the other Petal Perfect Lipsticks but with a matte finish.
I prefer this matte formula. It's certainly not matte in the same way as a high street branded lipstick - the formula is much more moisturising and creamy, so not at all drying. But I prefer the stronger pigmentation of the matte - it's not shimmery so doesn't appear quite as pale as the non-matte Petal Perfect lipsticks.

In order to achieve the colouring, our Matte Lipsticks are pigmented with titanium dioxide and iron oxide. You can be sure that Nostalgia Lipstick is vegan and contains no carmine or dyes.

Apple Blossom - Lip Gloss 10ml-PureAnada-Live in the Light

Pure Anada - Apple Blossom Lip Gloss
£12.00

Apple Blossom is a delicious shimmery very pale dusky pink/peach shade. Hopefully you can actually make it out in the swatch below - it's pretty pale!
I'm usually not a fan of lip gloss - I find them far too sticky and hate that my hair always gets stuck to my lips! However, there is no silicone in this formula, and that's perhaps why I really like this lip gloss. It has a high shine but without the stickiness, which I'm very happy about! It's a very moisturising lip gloss so is very comfortable to wear - in fact, this wears more like a lip balm than a gloss. The colour is too pale for me personally, but the formula is spot on.

Ruby - Lip Gloss 10ml-PureAnada-Live in the Light

Pure Anada - Ruby Lip Gloss
£12.00

Ruby is a shimmery dark coppery red. Again, not quite a metallic finish but just enough shimmer to be striking and great for daytime wear. This tints the lips meaning that it fades uniformly and is a bit more long-lasting.
Ruby is also available as in the Perfect Petal Lipstick form.

And finally - here's the lipstick that I bought without trying a sample first.

Pure Anada - Perfect Petal Lipstick - Tigerlily
£12.00

The shade is a shimmery copper-orange.
I absolutely love this shade but would have preferred it to be the matte formula, as I'm finding the shimmery formula shows up quite pale on the lips and this is a colour that needs to be a bit bolder.
Again though, I can't fault the formula. It's very comfortable to wear even if it's not particularly long-lasting.
