Natural Hair Care Favourites

I've recently been aiming to make the switch from basic and budget High Street branded hair care products to products with naturally-derived ingredients.
This journey has been a bit hit and miss, but here are some of the natural hair care products that I've recently been using and loving.

From L-R: Unearthd - The Mane Attraction; Zenon Kition - Essential Bliss Shampoo and Conditioner and Hema Organic Oils - Orange Passion Hair Oil

What a fantastic introduction when making the switch to natural hair care!
I recently reviewed both the Essential Bliss Shampoo and Conditioner and set their performance side by side in comparison with my experiences with high street branded shampoo and conditioner. To be honest, I had expected that there would be an adjustment period, but was delighted that this gorgeous duo performed exactly how I had hoped for on first use.
With High Street branded hair care, the staggering array of hair types catered for is at first impressive, but after noticing that the Essential Bliss range simply states 'For All Hair Types', it made me wonder about just how believable and reliable the claims of the High Street brands actually are.
I asked Dori and Tas of Zenon Kition (Tas has been a hair dresser for 22 years and Dori formulates the Zenon Kition products, using Tas' expertise) why they didn't cater for a specific hair type with their products.

Zenon Kition: "It's all about marketing. Beauty and Cosmetic companies need to sell and make a profit.
Shampoo is a straight forward product, or at least it should be! Its role is to clean the hair and scalp in a gentle way without stripping the natural oils from it.
Tas has worked over the years with all of them - there isn't much difference between the conventional ones".

This is exactly the answer that I suspected! The cynic in me is always dubiously aware of marketing ploys, but I guess that the dreamer (and the compulsive consumer) in me doubts myself and falls for the hype! I'm guessing that probably 95% of those specific hair type products are actually non-essential. I should really go and do a bit of research in Superdrug, comparing the ingredients in each one - my guess is that they wouldn't differ too wildly.

The Essential Bliss Shampoo and Conditioner are both utterly gorgeous. I've tried several natural shampoos now but I've never been as impressed with any of them as I have with this duo. Other natural hair care that I've tried have seemed quite basic in comparison - yes, they've cleaned and conditioned my hair, but have also left my hair feeling slightly dull and lacklustre.
The Essential Bliss range just has that extra oomph that's been missing. After using these my hair is much softer, definitely shinier and feels a lot more manageable. I definitely intend to repurchase these, even if I do continue in my quest to find great natural shampoo and conditioner.

Unearthd - The Mane Attraction

* Currently on sale for £9.99 - usual price is £23.99!

I received this hair serum in a Skin Organics Clean Beauty Box a couple of months ago. And to be honest, at first I wasn't sure how I was going to incorporate this into my hair care routine. Since I let my hair dry naturally and very rarely style it using heated styling tools, I wasn't sure if I actually had use for this.
But actually, this quickly became an essential in my hair care routine.
I mostly use this after I've been swimming. I go swimming several times a week so end up washing my hair in the showers at the pool more than I do at home. After using my usual shampoo and conditioner, whilst my hair is still damp, I like to use a few drops of the Mane Attraction and apply it to my hair before combing.
This really helps to de-tangle my hair but also gives it a protective barrier. It's non-greasy, lightweight and most importantly, doesn't leave my hair feeling crispy after use.
You can also use a couple of drops of the serum on dry hair to tame flyaway hair and to give you hair a more sleek appearance.
This product recently won an 'Editors Choice' Award in the 2019 Beauty Shortlist Awards. It's 100% Natural, certified cruelty free and Vegan. Unearthd also ethically source the Argan Oil used in the serum from Morocco.

Hema Organic Oils - Orange Passion Hair Oil

This was one of the products that I received from a giveaway a while back but I've only just recently gotten around to using this hair oil as I was previously using the Vee Beauty Ldn Hair & Scalp Nourishing Treatment Oil (Review).
Firstly, how gorgeous is that corked bottle?
The oil is pretty sumptuous too, scented with Passion Fruit Oil and Orange Essential Oil.
I use this once a week and leave it on as an overnight treatment.
It's early days yet, so I haven't been able to tell just how much it's helping my hair. But it's an enjoyable ritual to massage into my scalp and through the ends of my hair and also gives me a great conditioning treatment once a week.

  2. I'm not sure if it's perhaps a bit of a myth these days, but when swimming so regularly I always worry about the Chlorine in the pool turning my blonde hair green! It's never happened yet but I still like the idea of some kind of protection for my hair when being exposed to chemicals on a daily basis. I'm loving this serum for its ability to keep my hair from drying out too much without making it greasier at the roots.
